The picnic grounds in Molino Basin provide dense shrubs, including manzanita and ocotillo, as well as the classic Sahuaro cactus, marching up steep escarpments, littered with sandstone boulders and cliffs.

There is an interplay of brilliant blues and purples with the warmer colors to complement them in this painting, and the negative shape of the ocotillos ribs reach into the clear sky, seen only as scrape lines in the wet paint.
